Supervisory Transportation Security Specialist - Explosives ID - 14072
About the position
The Supervisory Transportation Security Specialist - Explosives position at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) involves safeguarding the American transportation infrastructure by serving as a subject matter expert on explosives and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). This role requires advanced knowledge to assess threats, educate screening personnel, and support explosive vulnerability assessments across various transportation modes. The position is based at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and includes supervisory responsibilities, mentoring, and collaboration with law enforcement and bomb squads.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and collaborate with TSS-E staff and the screening workforce.
- Act as a mentor and trainer to lower banded TSS-Es.
- Direct the closure of checkpoints and contact law enforcement as required.
- Respond to and assess unresolved checkpoint and checked baggage alarms.
- Assess interrelationships between initiators, power supplies, and chemicals.
- Participate in covert drills to evaluate training programs.
- Mentor and train the front-line screening workforce on explosives and IED components.
- Facilitate IED training aid drills for threat information dissemination.
- Provide effective training to improve threat detection by the screening force.
- Integrate local Bomb Squads and military EOD units into the transportation environment.
- Develop and maintain relationships with multi-modal partners and stakeholders.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status.
- Completion of a favorable Background Investigation (BI).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance.
- Selective Service registration required.
- Pass pre-employment Drug Screening and subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
- Meet TSA Medical Guidelines for Transportation Security Specialist - Explosives.
- Availability to work various shifts and overtime as needed.
- Willingness to undertake extensive travel, including overnight trips.
- Completion of formal accredited IED/bomb disposal coursework from accredited bomb disposal schools.
- One year of specialized experience at the SV-H or GS-12 level in Federal service or equivalent private sector experience.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with bomb program management responsibilities.
- Quality ranking factor experience within the last five years.
