Responsibilities

The Ascension Digital Experience & Research (xRD) team is seeking a skilled Senior Digital Product Designer to support the design of our Consumer Patient Portal (Ascension One). As a Senior Designer, you will play a pivotal role in creating user-centered experiences for patients and caregivers across multiple touchpoints. Working closely with product management, design leadership and development teams, you will ensure that our digital products are intuitive, engaging, and aligned with Ascension’s mission of delivering compassionate care. Our multidisciplinary Digital Experience Research and Design (xRD) team applies human-centered design principles to understand user needs, explore solutions, and bring valuable products to market. Working collaboratively with product management, clinicians, engineers, and other Ascension teams, we contribute to Ascension’s consumer experience strategy, continually delivering value to the organization’s mission and growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver Quality Designs: Support design initiatives for the Consumer Patient Portal (Ascension One), ensuring that user needs are met and healthcare outcomes are enhanced through intuitive, user-friendly interfaces and interactions.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with Product Management, Marketing, and Digital Services to create cohesive, user-centered solutions for patients and caregivers.
  • Integrate Research Insights: Use UX research and human-centered design principles to develop thoughtful, user-focused experiences that ensure high-quality patient interactions.
  • Engage Stakeholders: Present and advocate for design decisions, ensuring alignment with business goals and the needs of patients and healthcare providers.
  • Plan and Execute: Participate in quarterly planning sessions to outline and deliver discovery and project phases, ensuring the timely completion of all project components.
  • Prioritize and Communicate: Contribute to the assessment and prioritization of features based on business objectives and user feedback.
  • Monitor Trends: Stay informed about market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to ensure the relevance of design decisions.
  • Align with Development Efforts: Collaborate with Development, Technology, and Product teams to ensure agile planning and alignment with business goals.
  • Support Design Research Activities: Support research, usability testing, and data analysis to ensure high-quality design deliverables.
  • Conduct Workshops: Facilitate stakeholder workshops to review and approve designs, fostering collaboration and alignment.
  • Ensure Quality Standards for Design and UX Writing: Maintain adherence to best practices, brand standards, accessibility guidelines, and the Ascension design system.
  • Promote Excellence: Advocate for high-quality design practices and user experiences, ensuring that digital interactions with the Consumer Patient Portal support Ascension’s mission to provide compassionate care.


Requirements

Education:


Additional Preferences

  • 5+ years of experience in digital product design, with a strong portfolio showcasing consumer-facing, user-centered design solutions. 3 years of experience in digital product design is required.
  • Strong knowledge of user-centered design principles and UX research methodologies for desktop, tablet and mobile experiences: integrating design / customer insights research; early concepting and sketching, including wireframes and flows; high-fidelity interfaces, Figma prototype creation; detailed functional spec documentation that is ready to use by developers
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineers, and cross-functional leadership.
  • Strong communication skills, with expertise in presenting product visions and design concepts through storytelling and visual design.
  • Expert-level skills with industry-standard design software, Figma and Figjam preferred
  • Experience designing for healthcare systems, especially patient-facing applications, or portals, is a plus.
  • Familiarity with agile software development practices.
