This is routine unskilled and semi-skilled part-time work involving the functions of all aspects of City operations and related public services. Worker-trainees may perform a wide variety of office, shop and field duties not requiring formal skill training or previous work experience. As work experience is acquired, employees may be assigned to limited tasks of a semi-skilled nature. New employees of this class exercise little independent judgment in completing job tasks. However, after the initial period of training, employee may be required to exercise some judgment based on knowledge gained through work experience. Work is closely supervised, and the employee receives specific and detailed instructions at the beginning of each new assignment. Work is reviewed or checked upon completion by a superior.

Essential Functions

Some of the duties for this position include: operates mimeograph, mailing, copier or other simple office equipment not requiring previous experience; uses a typewriter on low volume work not requiring proficiency; answers telephone and visitor inquiries; routes calls and visitors and gives routine information; performs simple posting work; may assist in taking routine inventories of materials and supplies; files correspondence, checks, vouchers, index cards, forms, and other materials alphabetically, numerically or by other predetermined classification; sweeps, mops and scrubs City buildings; may use hand tools and simply-operated power tools for completion of assignments; waters, fertilizes, and cuts grass, weeds and brush; rakes grass and trash; cuts down and removes trees and helps plant and trim trees and shrubs; picks up supplies, documents, reports and other materials; makes deliveries to the assigned destinations; attends financial literacy courses, and performs other related work as required.

Minimum Requirements

This class is designed to provide marketable skills so that employees will qualify for regular employment in the labor market. Worker-trainees are encouraged to enroll in appropriate vocational and technical education programs or college credit courses related to their career goals.
Per guidelines set by the City of Miami Summer Jobs Connect - Miami Program, applicant program start date will be, June 9, 2025.
Completion of Financial Literacy Courses are required.
Program Eligibility:
- Be between the ages of 16 and 19 years old
- Live within the City of Miami Boundaries
- Reside in a low to moderate income area

Documentation Requirements

ALL DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED MUST BE CLEAR, LEGIBLE, AND IN PROPER FORMAT.
The applicant is responsible for providing the necessary documentation to demonstrate she/he lives within City of Miami boundaries and is 16-19 years old. Copies of the following documents will be accepted: You only need to select one (1) of the three (3) options to complete the application.
The proof of address submitted must be the one that you were qualified with no other will be accepted.
Acceptable proof of age document(s):
Option 1 – provide one of the following:-
Government/Florida Issued ID

Florida Driver's License
- Learner's Permit
- Work Permit
Option 2 – provide one of the following documents:- Copy of Miami Dade County Public Schools PF3 page – (You may request form at your school’s main office)

Screenshot of your address information in your Miami Dade County Public Schools portal
AND Copy of Photo ID (High School, Military, Passport, or Work Permit).
Social Security Card
Option 3 – provide one of the following documents from 1 to 4:- Copy of your school schedule with applicant’s name and home address (most current school semester)
- Utility Bill with the applicant’s name and home address (not more than 90 days old)
- Bank Draft or Direct Deposit form (must include name and home address)
- Birth Certificate
and Social Security card
Notes:- Copies of two or more documents may be requested to verify program eligibility
