About the position

The Olathe Police Department is seeking a dedicated and analytical individual to join their team as a Crime Intelligence Analyst II. This full-time position is designed for those who are passionate about researching and analyzing data to uncover patterns and connections that can aid in crime prevention and resolution. As a Crime Analyst, you will play a crucial role in supporting police officers and the community by providing valuable insights into crime trends and suspect behaviors.

 

The position offers a competitive salary range of $60,320 to $82,764, along with excellent benefits, including retirement plans and paid parental leave. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting complex tactical, strategic, and administrative intelligence analyses. You will produce detailed analytical reports that will be utilized by various divisions within the police department, as well as external agencies. Your work will involve coordinating daily workflows and communication broadcasts related to criminal investigations and special projects. Additionally, you will prepare and deliver presentations on intelligence and performance analysis to various stakeholders, including police department work groups and the public.

 

 Collaboration is key in this position, as you will work closely with regional and metro agencies to share information about crime trends and patterns. You will also be responsible for training other staff members within the crime intelligence unit and maintaining the citywide performance management software system for the police department. The work environment is primarily office-based, with frequent exposure to computer screens and electronic equipment. Analysts may also be required to work in varying conditions, including day and night shifts, and endure periods of physical exertion under challenging circumstances.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct highly complex and sensitive tactical, strategic, and administrative intelligence analysis for the Police Department.
  • Produce detailed analytical reports for various divisions, individuals, and external agencies.
  • Coordinate crime analyst daily workflow and communication broadcasts for criminal investigations and special projects.
  • Prepare and deliver intelligence and performance analysis presentations to Police Department work groups, City departments, and the public.
  • Collaborate with regional and metro agencies to share information about crimes and area crime trend data.
  • Provide training to other staff within the crime intelligence unit and department personnel.
  • Maintain the citywide performance management software system for the police department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with major coursework in criminal justice, information technology/computer science, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Records Management Systems (NICHE RMS), Lexis-Nexis, REJIS, COPLINK, Openfox, and other crime analyst software tools.
  • Proficiency in Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Valid driver's license and favorable driving history are required.
  • IACA Certification or equivalent preferred; Basics of Crime Analyst Certification also preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Federal, State, and Local Law enforcement practices.
  • Additional relevant analytical experience may substitute for education.
