Job Description And Duties
The Captain, under the general direction of the Associate Warden, is responsible for developing the plan of operation of the Facility. This includes the organization and assignment of staff. The Captain is also responsible for developing plans and procedures used for the monitoring of staff use of sick leave credits. The Custody Captain has direct oversight of the following departments: Mailroom, Lock Shop, Receiving Release, Armory, Watch Office, Incarcerated Persons Assignments Office, Incarcerated Persons Tablet usage and all outer perimeter security personnel.
The Captain is responsible for working with the IST Manager in the development of on-going training (OJT and Classroom) covering all areas of custodial responsibilities. The Captain is also the senior custody supervisor and is responsible for all custodial staff. This includes assisting staff with EAP referrals and the application of progressive discipline as required.
The Captain, as the Reviewing Officer and/or Chief Disciplinary Officer, is responsible for the enforcement of departmental standards of performance and behavior for all incarcerated individuals. The Captain is also responsible for the development and promotion of activities that promote socially acceptable attitudes.
The Captain is a member of the various committees within the institution. This position is the Emergency Management Coordinator.
Limited term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

About the location - The California Institution for Men is a Level II Non-Designated Programming Facility (NDPF) centrally located near Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino and Orange Counties with an on-site fitness center for staff and located near shopping and restaurants with convenient acess to the 91 and 60 highways.
