About the position

The Parking Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcing city parking ordinances and regulations in Saint Petersburg, FL. This role involves patrolling assigned areas, checking for parking violations, issuing tickets using a handheld device, and providing information about city services to the public. The position requires effective communication skills, discretion, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned areas to monitor parking compliance.
  • Check vehicles for over-parking and improper parking.
  • Issue computerized parking tickets using a handheld microprocessor unit.
  • Inform citizens about city functions and community services.
  • Communicate effectively with the public in sensitive situations.

Requirements

  • Valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • Valid Motorcycle Endorsement or ability to obtain it within 5.5 months of appointment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with street names and locations within downtown St. Petersburg.
  • Previous experience working with the public.
