Job Description
The State of Louisiana is hiring a Wildlife and Fisheries Technician A-C for the Office of Wildlife. The role involves daily operations on Wildlife Management Areas, data collection for management programs, habitat management activities, and equipment maintenance. The position requires working with various machinery and participating in wildlife sampling. It is based in Lafayette or Pointe Coupee Parish and is not a remote job.

WILDLIFE AND FISHERIES TECHNICIAN A-C - WLF HABITAT/ STEWARDSHIP/ SHERBURNE
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is recruiting for Wildlife and Fisheries Technician A-C. The incumbent will perform daily operations primarily on WMAs within region, and elsewhere as needed, collect data used in establishing management or research programs and setting regulations, participate in management activities including planting food plots, conducting prescribed burns, boundary marking, and managed hunts. This position will also perform and assist in necessary construction and maintenance activities on department buildings, grounds, roads, levees, equipment, camping areas, and water control structures. The incumbent will utilize, maintain, and transport equipment such as boats with outboard motors, ATV/UTVs, tractors with implements, excavators, and motor graders, participate in lethal and nonlethal collection and sampling of wildlife species for management and research, transport injured or nuisance animals and perform other duties as directed and necessary for the agency to accomplish its mission.

Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if selected. If filled as a job appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available.
Position may be domiciled in Lafayette Parish or Pointe Coupee Parish and will be determined when candidates are selected.
This position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and is advertised to be filled as a Wildlife and Fisheries Technician A, B or C. JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Wildlife and Fisheries Technician B by the absence of experienced level wildlife and/or fisheries duties.

Assists biologists and technicians of a higher level in various natural resource management or research activities, including use, maintenance and calibration of scientific and technical equipment.

Helps maintain buildings, public ramps, grounds, roads, vehicles, boundary markers, equipment, lake management structures and other equipment.
Operates high-pressure spray pumps, outboard motors, air boats, mud boats, vehicles, tractors, and other Department equipment.
