The City of Pomona has an exciting opportunity for a Water Conservation Specialist to join the Water Resources team. The position, under immediate supervision, will assist in the development and implementation of water use efficiency programs, community outreach activities, and resources to achieve the Department’s water reliability goals and objectives; assist with the Department’s social media and website efforts and coordinate social media messaging with staff from other divisions; and represent the department at community events and industry related meetings.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED equivalency supplemented by college-level coursework in environmental science, landscape architecture, horticulture, business administration, geography, water, or a related field.

Two years of experience in customer service and resource conservation.
License or Certificate:

Must possess a valid driver's license.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Water Use Efficiency Practitioner Level 1 Certification issued by the American Water Works Association (AWWA-CA/NV) within 12 months.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

- Program Management: Manage and coordinate water conservation activities, including audits, studies, and public education initiatives.
- Program Design and Implementation: Develop, promote, and evaluate water efficiency programs; analyze program results to improve conservation efforts.
- Grant Administration: Prepare, implement, and monitor grant applications; ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
- Customer and Community Engagement: Address public inquiries and complaints, conduct water use audits, and deliver educational presentations to diverse groups.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze water use trends, prepare comprehensive reports, and recommend conservation policies and programs.
- Public Outreach: Create and distribute educational materials, promote water rebates, and engage with stakeholders on conservation topics.
- Legislation and Compliance: Research and advise on water conservation legislation, ensuring alignment with City policies and goals.
- Collaboration and Representation: Coordinate with City departments, represent the City at conferences, and participate in special conservation projects.
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Ability to work in an office setting and outdoor field environment; walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; operate office equipment including use of a computer keyboard; travel to different sites and locations; operate assigned equipment and vehicles; walk on various types of surfaces including uneven surfaces; verbally communicate to exchange information; ability to work evenings and weekends occasionally.
