Senior Transit Planner (Administrator II) ID - 11648

About the position

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is seeking a Senior Transit Planner to work in the Office of Service Development. This role involves managing various transit planning projects, conducting research and analysis, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. The Senior Transit Planner will act as a liaison with community organizations and regulatory agencies, representing the MTA in various forums and meetings. The position is crucial for developing recommendations for service changes in response to evolving transit needs.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Project Manager for various consultant staff support related to transit planning projects.
  • Assist the Transit Planning Manager in managing tasks related to the Annual Service Program (ASP) service changes.
  • Review proposed changes to routing alignment and level of service to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Conduct complex transit and service delivery research and analysis.
  • Develop recommendations for service changes based on ridership, land-use development, and resource availability.
  • Act as a liaison with private, public, and community organizations regarding transit planning matters.
  • Represent the MTA at forums and task-force meetings to address transit planning issues.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Five years of experience in administrative staff or professional work, with two years specifically in transit planning or transportation planning.
  • Knowledge of transit software such as Trapeze or HASTUS is preferred.
  • Professional proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Detailed knowledge of General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) standards.
