REGISTERED NURSE V (GENERAL DUTY) - OAHU ID - 12069

Oversees all patient care units and hospital-wide services on an assigned shift; organizes and manages a specialty clinic in support of a medical program; and/or services as a program specialist in a particular clinical service or subject matter area of nursing. Such responsibility includes providing consultative and educational services to nurse, program administrators and others for the development and improvement of nursing programs, policies, procedures and practices.

The Registered Nurse V-General Duty typically serves as a House Supervisor and is responsible for supervising nursing care and treatment services for all patient care units and coordinating hospital-wide services on an assigned shift. This involves responsibility for planning and providing nurse care and treatment services on an assigned shift; coordinating support services to meet hospital staffing and patient care needs and insure timely and efficient patient flow; making decisions on patient care issues in the absence of the nurse manager and/or higher level supervisor; participating in the development, revision, and implementation of nursing programs, policies, and procedures; and perform other related duties as assigned.

In certain instances, where the area covered by a general hospital is extensive, positions in this class may manage out-patient clinics established in remote areas.

This position is located within the Department of Health in the Health Care Assurance Division. The primary purpose of this position is to perform on-site surveys of medical and health care facilities, organization, or agencies to determine compliance to state and/or federal standards; provide professional and technical expertise in the area of nursing; and provide education and training in regulatory requirements and survey protocols to peers and provider groups. To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

License: Applicants MUST POSSESS a valid State of Hawaii license to practice as a Registered Nurse at the time of application.

Experience: Two and one-half (2-1/2) years of professional nursing experience.  At least one (1) year of the required experience MUST HAVE been comparable to the next lower level in the State Service.

The Registered Nurse IV – General Duty supervises and participates in providing nursing care and treatment services; plans and implements in-service training programs for nursing and/or nursing assistants; and develops and implements nursing care plans for and provides related nursing services for the full range of public health nursing cases within a specific geographic area.
